My dear old grandma has just given me her antique bracelet, the same one she wore when she got married. I am in tears.
Last night she beckoned me to her room. As always we talked about my impending wedding and how well the plans were going on. Then she slowly took out a small wooden box, and nestled within the violet satin was a solitary Victorian styled bracelet. The pearly affair was gorgeous and the highlight was the Swarovski glass pearl surrounded by Swarovski gems.
Grandma told (more like, ordered!) me to wear it. I was speechless for a while, and slowly put it on my wrist as she clasped it tight for me. It was a perfect fit. Slowly it dawned upon me that she wanted me to have it.
“But it’s too beautiful!”
“It’s yours sweety. And don’t worry about feeling guilty, I gave your mother my antique earrings for her wedding day.” The sweet old lady winked conspiratorily. I thanked her profusely and since then I couldn’t take my eyes of it.
Which brings me to the jewelry issue. I definitely want to wear this at my wedding. And I am now thinking of collecting an antique jewelry series to go with the bracelet. Antique tiara, vintage necklace or choker… the works. OR I could also get something contemporary to wear and maintain this bracelet as the only vintage piece of jewelry (something old, something new…?).
The possibilities are endless. I could also go take up a short jewelry making course, provided I have the time. There’s nothing quite like wearing your own creation at your own wedding. It’s unique and special and who knows, if lots of people spot my jewelry pieces and wanted me to dish up some, I could be a small time wedding jewelry designer!
Hehe, wishful thinking. But I’m seriously considering going with vintage jewelry at my wedding.
