I’ve been active in a local brides’ forum for quite some time and I was quite aware of the importance of getting a responsible photographer for my wedding day. I got wind that something totally bad happened to a fellow forum member who got married almost s year ago, and that she hired a completely irresponsible photographer who failed to deliver her photos, the soft copy as well as the album, 6 months after her wedding. Imagine that! SIX WHOLE MONTHS! That is an awfully long time to wait for mere wedding photos that could have been delivered few days after the wedding itself, of course after considering the time needed to edit the photos so that they appear more presentable than ever.
Imagine yourself in her shoes, the heat of the wedding is over and you have yet seen any photos of your actual wedding day. The photographer even hurled abused at her in his photography blog about her complaining to other members of the forum about his services and lackadaisical attitude. He gave lame excuses like he was really busy taking photos for too many other couples and 6 months isn’t a long time to wait for. What a disgrace! Doesn’t he have any ethics? If you can’t manage your own work load, don’t accept so many offers as though you’ve got 12 pairs of hands!
Thinking about it makes me boil. I certainly hope it doesn’t happen to me. Here, let me list down some guidelines for you to follow regarding the selection of photographers:
1. Set your budget and keep to it. Some photographers who claim to be professionals are way too overpriced. Go for only what you can afford. It’s not good being in debt just to hire an overly exorbitant photographer!
2. Get more than one photographer. On your wedding day, there might be activities going on simultaneously and with only one photographer, you might miss out precious moments. More photographers equals better coverage.
3. Do surveys before you settle down with a photographer. Look at their portfolios, reputation, charges and packages before you
4. Select the photographer that suits your style. There might be styles of photography that you do not like.
