Well, here’s the deal…I threw myself a wedding.
I didn’t get married, but I’ve always wanted to wear “THE DRESS.” And I wanted to wear it IN RED!
So I did.
GETTING THE DRESS:
Let me tell you, it took A LOT of looking to find the red dress of my dreams…I probably looked at over a thousand dresses (thank God for the internet!), and had a very hard time locating any of the dresses I did like in a bridal store. Apparently (at least in Chicago), bridal stores NEVER sell colored wedding dresses I was told, so the owners never order them.
Here was my M.O.:
I called to find a Maggie Sottero authorized store that had the style of red dress I liked (Nola - ooh-la-la!) in white (or cream, buff, ivory…or some such blah wedding dress color) to make sure if it looked good on me. I wanted the cut of the dress to flatter my figure, because if it didn’t, all of the flaws it pointed out were going to be that more emphasized in red!
I got in touch with a bridal store that was able to send me a swatch of the dress color. There are SO many shades of red out there, and I wanted to make sure this was one that looked good on me, and I wasn’t going to look like a Christmas tree.
Note: Finding a store that can get a swatch of a dress color is apparently VERY difficult, because the dresses are mainly manufactured in China. I pressed on nonetheless until I found a store that could do it for me. They were able to send the swatch to my home, I was able to try the dress on (in gold) at another bridal store, and ordered it from there.
Apparently I was the first person in the store’s history to order a wedding dress in red, and the owners were very excited which made it fun!
As far as the actual “wedding” went…I’ll get to that in the next post!
