As most our blog readers already know by now, my fiancé and I met through a comic convention in San Diego years ago. When we first laid eyes on each other, we were dressed as our favorite characters from the wildly popular Sandman graphic novels created by Neil Gaiman (you may remember him as the writer of the recent “Stardust” movie?). So for our wedding we came up with the idea of donning similar styled dresses and suit but with our own personalities injected in our costumes.
For this reason, I did (and am still doing!) plenty of research about gothic and vintage wedding dresses. In order to personify Death, the elder sister of Dream and the oldest of the 7 Endless siblings, I need to wear black. And black can be rather taboo when it comes to wedding gowns. Fortunately I have this Redhotbrides site to fall back on. The information I gleaned from this website gave me the courage to build my argument in case anyone questioned my decision to not wear WHITE on my wedding day. Honestly, there is no rule saying that us westerners have to wear white on wedding days. I observed that even though Chinese brides are to wear red wedding gowns, they are not averse to wearing modern white dresses on the same day. So why not other colors? Red, pink, purple, magenta… the choices are endless but I am still leaning towards a very gothic and eye catching black!
I happened to stumble upon this black spider web dress that is perfect for the wedding! Here is the description for the gown which in my opinion is a completely apt work of art!
Multi layered tulle netted skirt and corseted basque style dress with glistening sequins and beaded pattern, it truely is a stunner! Built in underskirt to give same effect as photo. Has removable privacy panel at back. Front boning for added shaping and support.
Now with the right amount of makeup and some tweaks done to my hair, ta-da, I’ll be ready to turn heads at my wedding!
