Every bride’s story about how her hubby-to-be proposed is special in her own way. Today I want to tell you how MY beau proposed but I am not going to sugar coat it. In fact, I admit it’s a rather unconventional way to propose but hey I am an unconventional girl and I LOVE unconventional methods!
One night after we’ve been dating for two years (approximately 24 months since the day we met at the comic convention, imagine that!), he told me that he had a surprise for me. We went to the little cafe across the street from where the convention building stood, and that was where we first had our dinner after the convention was over.
We ordered the usual stuff. Me and my seafood platter and he ordered his plate of prime ribs. After dessert came (apple pie and gelato!) he unceremoniously handed me a huge package. I opened it eagerly and saw that it was an autographed FIRST EDITION book of Neil Gaiman’s Sandman, leather bound in perfection! I screamed at him delightedly and was about to leap into his arms when I opened it and saw a HUGE GAPING HOLE IN THE MIDST OF THE BOOK!
Enraged I stared open mouthed at the book, not knowing how to react. I saw him chuckle from the corner of my eye and that was when I finally noticed it…
… a tiny velvet box in the middle of the gaping hole.
I slowly took it out and opened the box. Sure enough, a slim platinum ring with a tiny diamond sits in place. I looked up and said: “YES I do but did you HAVE to cut the book???”
He laughed out so loud (partly due to joy that I accepted his proposal and mostly out of amusement) and explained that the book was fake. He took out the REAL book afterwards, all in one piece and unscathed
