Symbolic value of a red wedding dress

Chinese culture adores the color red.

In China, the entire ceremony is outfitted in full red. That color, so goes the tradition, brings properity and luck to the new couple. In India it is not the only color for brides. Indian brides wear a myriad of different colors, but red is always present. Japanese brides wear a combination of white and red. And even in America, during the Revolutionary War (that is, between 1775 and 1783) brides chose red for their wedding dresses. This color symbolized independence from the colonial power.

Is it a taboo to wear a red wedding dress? If not, why are so few wearing them. Is it against a religion? Is there a negative stigma attached to it. Red is associated to love and romance isn't it?
