Should You Wear a Red Wedding Gowns?

by Karen Vander

Red wedding gowns and red wedding dresses as well don’t have a long tradition in Western societies. However, since the beginning of the XXI century many brides are turning to some other color than white for their dresses. First it was only a hint of red attached to a plain white dress. It evolved to complete red wedding gowns or a completely red skirt. More daring brides even wear a complete red wedding dress.

Young brides today are looking at their options

Other options in red are red flowers attached to the dress, trains, tiaras and embroidery.

The choice of color is also highly influences by the season. Wedding in spring demand more discreet color like pale pastel or blue. Weddings in summer tend to demand aqua, purple or pink. Winter wedding are more appropriate for more hot colors like vivid blue or red.

Brides you care to give a more conservative image or care about the opinion of more conservative guests to her wedding should possibly avoid wearing a full red gown or, of course, a full red dress. Some hints or red are acceptable even in the more conservative bride’s wedding dress, as long as it isn’t an eye-catcher.

Wear a dress that matches her personality and feelings

In any case, brides should not only follow blindly the current fashions, but should wear a dress that matches her personality and feelings. There is nothing uncommon nowadays to express their feeling of passion or romance in the wedding day. Not even within a Christian tradition is a white wedding dress obligatory. There is nothing in the Bible implying that woman should wear white.

Traditionally, woman had simply chosen their best dress for this special day, and normally the best dress was not white. The tradition of white wedding dresses is only a century and a half long, principally following Queen Victoria’s own wedding the year 1840, that served as a reference point for many conservative wedding after that day.
