Be friend a Chinese to attend their wedding

by Karen Vander

I attended a Fujianese wedding last night and I must say it never stops to amaze me to see a Chinese bride adorn at least four different outfits before I lost count at their wedding party. Each one of these outfit a Chinese bride wears is so colorful and more beautiful then the prettiest flower I have seen.

Red is often the central if not the main wedding theme to the wedding color of China . It signifies love, prosperity and joy. It is used in a variety of ways in Chinese wedding traditions. One of the bride’s wedding gown is often red, as are the wedding invitations, and wedding gift boxes or envelopes for cash gifts. Even the bride and groom’s homes are decorated in red on the wedding day.

If you never attended an Asian wedding particular Chinee, I urge you to make friends with soon to be married Chinese brides to be invited to their wedding to witness such a blast type of event. I had the privy to attend two weddings this past weekend.

Before the party, most of the time the new couple will stand at the front door of the restaurant or hotel. They thank everyone for coming. Usually, people who come to the wedding party will give the new couple some money that is called “Hong Bao”. When almost everyone have arrived, the party begins … there is no firm set scheduled of events.

Seeing colorful dresses and eating 12 course meals to say the least was heavenly satisfying. If I am lucky, check back in a couple of weeks and see if I post some professional photo shots of the brides.

Shanghai Tang’s signature red silk Qi Pao dresses - They were on displayed on 08/08/2008. This was the opening day of the recent summer Olympics. It also is the luckiest day of the century says the Chinese people.

“At the dawn of the 21st century, all the world´s eyes are riveted on China as the ancient nation embarks on a path of unrivalled economic growth, unmatched modernization and phenomenal projects on a world-beating scale. ” says Shangai Tang, an upscale fashion shop in the heart of Manhatten.

Consider incorporating some ideas from Asian weddings.

Is it a taboo to wear a red wedding dress? If not, why are so few wearing them. Is it against a religion? Is there a negative stigma attached to it. Red is associated to love and romance isn't it?
