Pear-Shaped Brides: Slim Your Hips Down With a Full Ball Gown

How A Simple Red Wedding Dress Can Make Wonders

As its name suggests, pear-shaped women have a small upper body and a fuller bottom similar to a pear’s shape. Usually, women with this body type have slim upper torsos and narrow upper bodies, but with wider lower bodies including the thighs, hips and bums. Famous celebrities with a pear-shaped figure include Shakira (as seen on the picture), Jennifer Lopez, Kate Winslet, Oprah and Baby Spice.

Dos: The best wedding dress to choose is a full ball gown with an accent on the waistline, making your hips look slimmer and accentuating your small upper bodice. You could also go for a boat-neck, long-sleeved or small princess-puffed sleeved dress to keep the balance of your larger hips and smaller shoulders. A V-neckline or a spaghetti-strap bodice can help in giving your upper body a more slender look.

Like Shakira’s dress, the dress you should choose should have a skirt that would flare out gradually in an A-shape from the waist to the floor. This helps in accentuating your narrow midsection, while keeping the eyes off the larger thighs and hips. Choose fabrics like taffeta and duchesse satin to help make the a-line silhouette effect.

Don’ts: Avoid sheath wedding gowns, puffy skirts and other dresses that would counter your small shoulders. Generally, empire line dresses don’t go well with full-busted women and the line of the skirt emphasizes your large hips. However, an empire line dress can actually become flattering if it features diagonal draping on the bodice. Stay away from high-cut necks and halter-necks because these styles make the hips look bigger. Mermaid styles or any dress that has bulks around your hips won’t work for your body shape.

Best Wedding Dress Style: A-line, ball gown or Empire

Is it a taboo to wear a red wedding dress? If not, why are so few wearing them. Is it against a religion? Is there a negative stigma attached to it. Red is associated to love and romance isn't it?
