Wedding dresses are getting revolutionized by style trends that result in fresh, yet extremely gorgeous and wearable pieces. While some brides pick bridal dress in a traditional white or off-white, red is chosen to welcome the coming year. While it’s always “a nice day for a white wedding”, as Billy Idol sang, red gowns make for great bridal wear as well. A red tiered, layered sheer skirt definitely adds glamour and color as the bride moves down the aisle. Some brides choose a red gown for cosmetic reasons: they feel that they would stand out in the warm, vibrant color on their wedding day. Red also symbolizes love and commitment, marriage and motherhood. Cultural tastes and traditional values may also find favor with red bridal wear. For whatever reason, the red bridal dress is here to stay.

“Here comes the bride, all dressed in – Red?!” is becoming a common statement in America. In fact, red plays a significant role in some Muslim, Hindu, and Chinese wedding ceremonies. Red was also a predominant color in the medieval times. It may seem a fashion statement to dress in red, but red bridal gowns are gaining acceptance at weddings. Traditional in Asia, Africa, and even some periods of American history, red is fast becoming one of the most popular alternatives to the white wedding gown. While a white bridal dress is associated with purity and most women in the United States opt for a white wedding dress for their ceremonies, color, particularly red, is increasingly being accepted to denote something bold and romantic and by those who want to break free from the traditional costumes.

One can experiment and work wonders while designing a red bridal gown. There are several ways to bring out the richness of color and accent the dress. A bodice without sleeves, a wrap neck or high choke would look great as it would highlight one’s beautiful shoulders and back. The beauty of the dress is also enhanced with one-shoulder bodice. The fabric can also be cross-wrapped either in the front or back, if desired to expose more of the neckline.

In terms of body shape and style, the full red skirt otherwise called the ballerina dress is suitable for giving proportion to a slim-hipped and heavy busted figure. The empire line dress is ideal for small frames. The princess line gown wraps around closely at the waist that gives beautiful proportion for those with slim waistlines while accentuating the bust area. This style also masks wide hips elegantly.

Many retailers have a whole range of breathtaking red wedding dress styles for brides to choose from. This bridal collection is available at National chains and major retailers that specialize in wedding apparel. These retailers will have red wedding dresses in several different sizes that brides can try on in the store. Many of these retailers also have a qualified tailor who would be able to make the necessary alterations to ensure a perfect fit.

While opting for a red gown, one should also keep in mind the make-up colors that are used. It should match one’s skin color more than the dress. Majority of the fashion experts agree that a red lipstick would not go with a red dress. The lipstick should go with the skin tone. A good foundation, translucent powder and an appropriate rouge rather than powder blush should blend well with a red wedding gown.

The key to looking beautiful on the big day is to look graceful, not trendy. A red wedding dress with suitable makeup and accessories will ensure the natural and picture-perfect look. While there’s no right answer on how to look perfect, a red bridal gown can be experimented upon with contrasting ensembles and accessories, to give that rich ravishing look on that special day.

Red is HOT! This dress is completely amazing! it's totally beautiful and just because white is the virgin color, doesn't mean that a hot red wedding dress isn't absolutely stunning!
